Nanjing

We got up at 6:00am there was a cool breeze this morning before the heat hit. It was refreshing. I hated leaving that beautiful hotel.

We visited the Yangtze River and bridge. The bridge we went too was quite famous because it was the first built by the Chinese to span the mighty Yangtze. The river is very wide, very deep and very silty. It was three levels, 80 meters into the river, 9 pillars and took ten years to build. Some 500 people lost their lives making just the pillars. The workers built it for free, just getting two meals a day and a place to sleep. It became a national pride issue because the Americans said it couldn't be done, the Russians started the project but after bad relations pulled out and said the Chinese could never build it on their own. But they sure did.

At the bridge the had a master painter who painted amazingly detailed scenes from the inside of bottles and globes. It was spectacular. We actually saw him in action. Crazy talent.

Yesterday we visited the Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum it was the one with a zillion steps.
